Primitiva was born
Hi! I am Natalia, founder of Primitiva. Born and raised in Medellin, Colombia. Since 2018, our brand has focused on merging fashion with sustainability through timeless designs and natural fibers. This photo is from Primitiva’s first photoshoot, featuring myself and taken by my brother, Camilo.
Mercado Consciente at Naturalia Café
We expanded our collection with more designs, including our staple Top Los Roques (pictured here), which is known for its versatility. We also launched Mercado Consciente (Conscious Market), a monthly event held at a café in Medellin. Our goal was to create a space for various brands offering unique and impactful products.
We opened a Primitiva store in Medellin
I'm getting nostalgic going through our timeline lol. Anyway, in February 2020 we opened the store, just for it to be closed a month later because of the pandemic. Yup, that happened and it's crazy that it was so long ago. Even though it was a brief period, having our own physical store was an incredible experience. On the bright side, that situation pushed us to create the Primitiva website so we could continue our sales online :)
The year of many changes
Not only I decided to get a buzz cut, but I also started working for a U.S. clean energy company which has been a great experience so far. Unfortunately, Primitiva has taken a back seat as a result. Although I have continued to launch new products and manage small-batch productions, my social media presence hasn't been the same since the pandemic. Despite this, Primitiva has been slowly growing thanks to the wonderful people that share our values and love our brand.
The year everything changed
At the end of 2022, I moved to the U.S. to continue to work for the clean energy company and it has been challenging to work on Primitiva. While we have continued with small productions and online sales, I have missed the in-person connection with our community in Colombia.
Fortunately, I have had incredible support to keep the brand moving forward. My mom has been instrumental in managing sales, and my friends have helped capture beautiful photos for the brand. This photo features my friend Jireh, who is as talented as she is gorgeous.
A new purpose
In 2024, we launched a campaign to raise funds for the Medellin Animal Protection Society, an organization that provides essential veterinary services to low-income residents in Medellin. As part of this initiative, we offered our pieces at a 50% discount and donated the remaining proceeds to the society. We are proud to share that we raised over $300 USD, which helped fund medical treatments and the purchase of necessary supplies for animals in need.
This initiative was a turning point for us. Moving forward, we have decided that every Primitiva sale will support social or environmental organizations in Colombia.
A new beginning for Primitiva
My brother, Camilo, and I have decided to join forces to continue bringing Primitiva to those who align with our values. Moving forward, we will focus our sales primarily in the U.S., where I have been living since 2022, with plans to potentially return to the Colombian market in the future. We have committed to using 100% linen for all our pieces and will continue production in Colombia to support local women dedicated to the industry. Additionally, we will donate 30% of our profits to animal shelters and nonprofits in Colombia. We are excited about the future and feel fortunate to have your support in this journey.
